Devising Theatre with The Wardrobe Ensemble

A brand new online CPD Workshop & Resource Pack for Drama Teachers and Facilitators

The company was born out of the Bristol Old Vic Young Company, a place for young people to attend weekly theatre sessions. As a result, we feel we understand the importance and value of a theatrical education. We are indebted to the guidance we received from other theatre makers, companies and teachers over the years and this is why sharing and exchanging our knowledge is central to our work as a company.

We run workshops for those taking their first steps towards theatre making, as well as for those more experienced practitioners looking to expand their skillset. Our workshops vary from 2 hours to 2 days and can be tailored to suit your requirements and interests. We are also available for longer-term projects, where we can work with you to create a new piece of theatre.

To book a workshop, please fill out this form or email emily@thewardrobeensemble.com to have a chat.

Our sessions can centre around any or several of the following:

  • Physical theatre

  • Ensemble techniques

  • Devised theatre

  • The themes of our show(s)

  • Teaching devised theatre

Workshops for Young People

These sessions are for those who are entirely new to theatre and want to learn what it's all about, as well as those who have already caught the bug and want to keep playing.

Workshops for Emerging Theatre Makers

For those who want to know more. These sessions are aimed at developing the skills necessary to make devised and ensemble-based theatre that is exciting, original and sustainable.

Show Workshops

We run workshops in conjunction with the show that we are developing or performing at the time. We want audiences to be able to engage with our work beyond simply watching the show. These workshops attempt to:

  • Share the skills that we have developed whilst making the show.

  • Create a dialogue about the themes and ideas of the show.

  • Use the show as a springboard to develop the participant’s own creative ideas and skills.

Online Workshops for Drama Teachers

This brand new workshop will look into the company process, explore some of our key devising exercises and help you to develop your own devising language and principles.
