Workshops for students, teachers and emerging theatre makers!

As a company that came up through the Bristol Old Vic Young Company, we feel we understand the importance of a theatre education. We've been running theatre workshops with young people since the company's inception and we pride ourselves in delivering high quality, accessible and thought provoking sessions that give participants a strong foundation for making their own work.

Our workshops focus on one or more of the following:

  • Tools for Devising & Ensemble techniques

  • Physical Theatre & Movement

  • Writing & Devising

  • A show by The Wardrobe Ensemble

  • A chosen stimulus

We will tailor our sessions to suit your needs and ensure our workshop is as useful to you and your students as possible. Email Emily at for a quick chat.

This 2 hour online workshop is aimed at Drama Teachers and Facilitators working with KS4/5 students in schools and educational settings.

This workshop will equip teachers with a series of devising tools and techniques to take back to the classroom and support their students in their own devised theatre-making. Through pre-recorded videos, presentations and interactive discussions, we will unpack some of the key exercises The Wardrobe Ensemble use to make its work. We will look at how to generate new material, develop discussions, create narrative structure and make visually exciting theatrical moments. Taken together, we hope to provide an informative, thoughtful and enriching theatre workshop that provides teachers with an insight into the company’s methodology, which they can incorporate into their own teaching.

After this workshop you will:

  • Have a good understanding of The Wardrobe Ensemble’s devising process.

  • Be able to lead five devising tasks with your students in a socially distanced classroom.

  • Develop your own devising language and best practice for running a room.

This workshop also includes:

  • A teaching resource pack, detailing each exercise discussed in the workshop and an outline of the company process.

  • Pre-recorded videos of our exercises and company interviews.

We're always looking to meet other theatre makers who are making work at the moment, have been making work for a while or haven't made anything at all but full of ideas! These sessions are as much about you as they are about us and simply a way for us all to connect, collaborate and to work the creative muscles.

We run two types of sessions:

  • Online Workshop: Making Collaborative Work

This online workshop will explore how The Wardrobe Ensemble makes its work with an eye to opening up the conversation about different forms of collaboration. We'll look at how to write as an ensemble ; best practice for running a collaborative room; question the limits of collaboration and discuss what is the best warm up game that actually gets us all in the zone.

  • Open Training for Theatre Makers: Play time

This is a space for artists to try out new ideas, collaborate with new people and have a play together. Each class will be facilitated by a theatre practitioner but there will always be space to play in your own way. We welcome anyone who is interested in getting stuck in and having some fun.

Note: We will advertise our next classes here and on our social media channels.
