UPCOMING TRAINING

The Theatre Making Intensive

Sat 3rd & Sun 4th June 2023 | Bristol Old Vic Theatre | 10am - 5pm

In association with Bristol Old Vic Engagement.

Join company member, Tom Brennan for two days of jam-packed theatre-making training - exploring and dissecting the varied ways that The Wardrobe Ensemble makes its work.

On the first day we will focus on TRAINING - developing and honing our ensemble, physical and devised theatre making skills, and exploring some of the exercises that the company uses when creating its shows. Alongside practical training, we'll look at techniques for generating discussion and finding 'the heat' of an idea to kick start your devising process.

The second day will focus on MAKING - using the techniques from day one as a foundation to slowly begin to devise our own work. The company will lead you through a series of quick creative tasks, from creating characters, to creative writing, improv to choreography, that will see you generate a wealth of material to reflect on, develop and refine.

The intensive will be a rigorous, fun two days that will provide you with useful tools and learnings that you can take forward into your own creative practice. We'll make, we'll play. We'll chat and discuss. We'll make some good things. We might make some bad things. We'll no doubt look a bit silly. But we hope you'll come away invigorated, empowered and wielding a new box of tricks that you can apply to your own work. Come and get stuck in!

ONLINE CPD FOR DRAMA TEACHERS AND FACILITATORS

This 2 hour online workshop is aimed at Drama Teachers and Facilitators working with KS4/5 students in schools and educational settings.

This workshop will equip teachers with a series of devising tools and techniques to take back to the classroom and support their students in their own devised theatre-making. Through pre-recorded videos, presentations and interactive discussions, we will unpack some of the key exercises The Wardrobe Ensemble use to make its work. We will look at how to generate new material, develop discussions, create narrative structure and make visually exciting theatrical moments. Taken together, we hope to provide an informative, thoughtful and enriching theatre workshop that provides teachers with an insight into the company’s methodology, which they can incorporate into their own teaching.

After this workshop you will:

  • Have a good understanding of The Wardrobe Ensemble’s devising process.

  • Be able to lead five devising tasks with your students in a socially distanced classroom.

  • Develop your own devising language and best practice for running a room.

This workshop also includes:

  • A teaching resource pack, detailing each exercise discussed in the workshop and an outline of the company process.

  • Pre-recorded videos of our exercises and company interviews.
